La Paz is a authentic Mexican city with a bit over 250 000 inhabitants. Even though the city has grown incredibly fast over the last three decades, it has managed to keep its laid back, almost lethargic atmosphere. Often one needs a lot of patience, especially in Restaurants or at the cashier of a super market. But the relaxed attitude also has its own charm: La Paz means "the peace" in Spanish. And people here really are cheerful, extraordinarily friendly and have a very special sense of humor. The sea side promenade is beautiful, decorated with over ten, the ocean dedicated statues, and invites to spectacular. sunset walks
Great Restaurants, cozy cafes, astonishing murals, a unique whale museum and nice souvenir shops make La Paz a great tourist destination that has managed to keep its own style.
Though the best is the surrounding nature. In less than a 10 minute boat drive you can see whale sharks and dolphins. Hundreds of birds live in and outside the city. And there is direct access to pristine, white sandy beaches like Balandra or Tecolote. La Paz is also the starting point to reach the nearby, stunning island of Espiritu Santo.
