Since 1993 the lagoon of San Ignacio counts as a UNESCO natural world heritage .During the winter season this lagoon is the home to over 200 species of birds, dolphins, turtles, sea lions and the charismatic gray whale.  The lagoon is located about 8 hours north of La Paz and is part of the the largest biosphere reserve in latin america: El Vizcaíno. Also part of the biosphere is the mountain range San Francisco de la Sierra. Here one can find ancient murals, hidden in caves at the bottom of deep desert canyons. These are some of the last wild places on our planet!
